The Mets suffered a setback with the loss of an outfielder to a fractured tibia, leaving them with several candidates to fill the center field position. Among these candidates are Tyrone Taylor, Brandon Nimmo, and infielder Luisangel Acuña, along with minor leaguer Jose Azocar. Manager Carlos Mendoza has opted to use this opportunity to try Jeff McNeil, who has limited experience in center field, further expanding the team's depth options as they cope with this injury.
McNeil does indeed have some experience in center, but it's fleeting at best. He's logged three partial big league games at the position - a total of 16 innings.
Though they have plenty of candidates to help cover Siri's absence, the Mets are apparently considering an outside-the-box possibility to further bolster their center field depth.
