The Hall of Fame will implement stricter eligibility rules for its Era Committees, effective next year. Candidates on the ballot must receive at least five votes from the 16-member panel. If they fail to do so, they won't be eligible for consideration in the next cycle, and candidates with fewer than five votes on two occasions will face permanent ineligibility. This change emphasizes the importance of votes in deciding candidates' enshrinement, reflecting a desire for a more rigorous selection process.
Beginning next year, any candidate on an Era Committee ballot who receives fewer than five votes will be ineligible for future consideration in the next cycle.
The Era Committees, formerly known as the Veterans Committee, aim to re-evaluate players not elected by the Baseball Writers Association of America.
Induction requires candidates to receive 12 out of 16 votes, with the smaller voting panel generally applying a lower standard than the BBWAA.
The Era Committee process occurs on a three-year rotation, evaluating candidates from Classic and Contemporary Baseball Eras, including players and executives.
