Diamondbacks Outright Rene Pinto
Briefly

Catcher Pinto cleared waivers and was assigned outright to Triple-A Reno by the Arizona Diamondbacks, serving as non-roster depth. After a competitive spring training, Pinto was designated for assignment when the backup catching job went to Jose Herrera. The 28-year-old began his career with the Rays and had a brief but unimpressive stint in the majors, while performing solidly at Triple-A. He had opportunities in 2023 but couldn't maintain consistent play, ultimately leading to his new assignment and the Diamondbacks' strategy for depth at catcher.
Pinto entered camp with Arizona in the mix to back up Gabriel Moreno alongside Adrian Del Castillo and Jose Herrera. The job ultimately went to Herrera, which necessitated the club designating Pinto for assignment as he had no minor league options remaining.
Despite a less than impressive debut with the Rays, Pinto performed strongly at Triple-A, slashing .266/.320/.521 in 73 games, showing promise as a catcher.
Although Pinto showed power in the 2023 season with six homers, he only lasted 19 games before losing playing time due to performance issues, demonstrating the competitive nature of the position.
Catcher Pinto cleared waivers and was assigned outright to Triple-A Reno, where he will provide non-roster depth for the Diamondbacks after being designated for assignment.
