Michael Fulmer, a 32-year-old right-hander, has signed a minor league contract with the Cubs, following his designation for assignment by the Red Sox. After spending the 2023 season in the Cubs' bullpen, Fulmer had a solid performance with a 4.42 ERA but faced significant injuries, including undergoing ulnar collateral ligament surgery. Preceding his signing with the Cubs, he performed well in minor leagues, but faced challenges in his brief return to the majors. Now, he will attempt to revitalize his career with the Cubsâ Triple-A affiliate, Iowa.
Fulmer was designated for assignment by the Red Sox last week and recently rejected an outright assignment in favor of free agency.
Fulmer signed with the Red Sox on a two-year minor league contract and spent last season rehabbing with the organization.
