The Atlanta Braves have bolstered their roster by signing reliever Dany Jiménez and catcher Chandler Seagle to minor league deals. Jiménez brings with him four big league seasons, most recently with the A's, where he had a 3.43 ERA over 57 2/3 innings in 2022-23. However, recent performance has shown a decline in strikeout rates and an increase in walks. Seagle, while having mainly served as organizational depth with a career .201 average in the minors, adds further catching options. Both players will need to prove themselves for a chance at the 40-man roster.
Jiménez managed decent results between 2022-23 despite scattershot command, combining for a 3.43 ERA over 57 2/3 frames during that two-year stretch.
The A's opted not to tender Jiménez an arbitration contract projected at $1MM, so he'll need a strong showing in camp to earn his way back onto the roster.
Seagle is an organizational depth catcher with a career .201/.272/.286 minor league batting line, called up for only one at-bat in 2023.
Jiménez struggled with command last season, culminating in a 4.91 ERA in 25 2/3 innings, while his strikeout rate dropped and walk rate surged.
