Reds manager Terry Francona shared updates on the team's pitching plans as Opening Day approaches. Andrew Abbott will start the season on the injured list, allowing Carson Spiers to take his place in the rotation. Abbott is recuperating from a shoulder strain, and Francona stressed that they won't rush his return. Instead, they aim to have him ready when he is fully healthy. The rotation will consist of Greene, Singer, Lodolo, and Martinez, with Abbott's health indicating he might return sooner than expected.
I don't even think about that just because I think that's where you make mistakes, when you put an artificial deadline. We're going to do what's right for every player.
For now, the club will proceed without Abbott. Four rotation spots will be taken by Hunter Greene, Brady Singer, Nick Lodolo and Nick Martinez.
