Alex Cora wasn't surprised Red Sox came up short in Kyle Schwarber sweepstakes
"Talking to Dave [Dombrowski] throughout the season, I don't know if it's official or not, but he knew that he was a huge part of what they were trying to accomplish and moving forward. So not surprised that if this comes true, it's with them."
"Good for him. He earned it. I mean, the guy - he's really good at what he does and what he brings to the equation on the field, off the field, to the community is probably second to none. He's just one of those that I had the pleasure to man"
"I had a pretty good idea that was going to be the route."
The Red Sox pursued Kyle Schwarber but he re-signed with the Phillies on a five-year, $150 million contract. Alex Cora said he expected Schwarber to stay in Philadelphia and that Dave Dombrowski viewed Schwarber as central to the Phillies' plans. Boston finished 15th in baseball in home runs last season and sought added middle-of-lineup power. Schwarber led the majors with 56 home runs and 132 RBIs in 2025 and finished second in NL MVP voting. Since leaving Boston after 2021, Schwarber averaged 48 homers and 112 RBIs per season with Philadelphia.
