"I text him every day. We go back and forth. Obviously cannot go into details about free agency and all that. But he's a guy that we really like and respect. What he did last year is what everybody thought he was gonna do and that was very simple. That's why I kind of like, sat back and relaxed because there were so many people who were like, this and that. I was like, 'Yeah, he's real, man.'"
"The leadership part of it is real. The player is real. The defense is amazing. He's a good dude. He actually embraced the whole Boston thing, the Sam Adams commercial. That guy, he gets it. He's obviously a game-changer. He had the right to opt out. But at the same time, we know he enjoyed playing in Boston and at Fenway."
Alex Cora and Alex Bregman exchange daily texts and maintain regular contact. Cora expressed a desire to keep Bregman in Boston and praised his leadership, defense, and overall player impact. Cora and Bregman were teammates in Houston in 2017 when Cora served as bench coach. Some analysts predict Boston may not re-sign Bregman in free agency, but Cora emphasized how well Bregman fit with the team and embraced Boston culture, including a Sam Adams commercial. Bregman had the right to opt out and hit .273 in 2025.
