Following Triston Casas' knee injury, Red Sox manager Alex Cora has reaffirmed that Rafael Devers will continue as the team's designated hitter. Although there is a recognized gap at first base, Cora has been firm about not moving Devers from his DH position for the immediate future. While he acknowledges the potential need to reassess this in the longer term, especially with other capable players like Romy Gonzalez and Abraham Toro on the roster, Devers has become more comfortable with his role and embraced it since spring training discussions.
"From my end right now? No," Cora told reporters Saturday of Devers moving to first. "We asked him to become the DH in spring training."
"I always say that time is our best friend in situations like this. And you know, there's two reasons. Like, Triston got hurt Saturday... so I'm not saying we'll never have that conversation, but I think for now, where we're at, I like Raffy as a DH."
