Gray formed close college relationships with Mike Yastrzemski and David Price. David Price signed a seven-year, $217 million deal with Boston in 2015 and helped the 2018 World Series run, and Gray and Price have maintained a friendship and often worked out together at Vanderbilt as their careers progressed. Vanderbilt has produced many major leaguers under coach Tim Corbin.
