On March 28, an armed intruder broke into a historic mansion in Beverly, assaulting the caretaker and stealing valuables. The intruder pistol-whipped the caretaker, tied her up, and fled in a stolen Porsche. The caretaker was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries and has since been released. The police are investigating the incident, and the suspect remains at large. The homeowner, Thomas J. Swan III, described the traumatic experience and noted that the stolen items were very valuable.
