Vacant apartment building collapses in Brookline
Briefly

A three-story apartment building in Brookline partially collapsed over the weekend, causing significant damage without any reported injuries. The structure, active with construction but vacant at the time, saw its top two floors fall, leading to bricks crashing down and flattening a nearby vehicle. Fire officials are investigating the cause, speculating on factors including recent severe weather. Although six residents were displaced, they were provided temporary accommodation while safety assessments and cleanup are ongoing.
At this time the cause of the collapse is unknown. All building permits for this site are active and valid.
Deputy Fire Chief Kyle McEachern told The Boston Globe that other cars were damaged and that he 'would imagine' recent snowfall contributed to the collapse.
Erica Koval described hearing a 'sound like a wind gust, but too loud to be a wind gust.'
