Compass Real Estate, the largest residential broker in the US, has adopted a strategy of keeping new Boston condo listings private to give its agents a first chance at selling them. However, Zillow, the largest real estate portal, has declared it will not support this practice, stating that all buyers should have equal access to listings. Effective May 1, Zillow will refuse to promote any property that is not listed publicly on MLS. This conflict raises concerns for Boston condo buyers, as restricted listings may hinder their ability to find their ideal homes and disrupt the market.
Compass Real Estate has been trying to prioritize its own agents by keeping new condo listings private, but Zillow's new rule will enforce public access to all listings.
Zillow announced they will blacklist properties that are kept private by Compass, arguing that all buyers deserve to see every available listing.
