Cooper Flagg made a successful return from an ankle injury, contributing significantly to Duke's 93-49 victory over Mount St. Mary's in the NCAA tournament. Despite missing two prior games due to the injury, Flagg showcased his readiness and performance, scoring 14 points and grabbing seven rebounds in just over 22 minutes of play. Coach Jon Scheyer praised Flagg’s contribution, indicating that his return was beneficial for both Flagg and the team. Flagg expressed confidence in his recovery, stating he entered the game "100% and comfortable." The victory sets Duke up for a challenging next match against Baylor.
Flagg eschewed any serious concerns over the ankle, saying it had been "a plan" for him to return for this game all along and that he entered Friday's matchup "100% and comfortable."
We just put a plan in place," Flagg said. "We have phases, a strategy of just getting back, getting prepared, and being ready."
We were ready for him to play more, but I think the way it worked out obviously was really good," Duke coach Jon Scheyer said.
The performance -- which also included four assists and two blocks -- was a good sign for him moving forward.
