Zdeno Chara's former Bruins teammates are excited to have him back in the fold
"Every day, he brought it. Like every single day, he led by example. He was the hardest-working guy out there. He's in the gym early, and he's doing more. He's here early, leaves late. You just saw what it meant to him, and that was how he led. You saw just how he prepared, how he treated the game, what it meant to him, how he treated everybody around you. That was his superpower."
"I'm excited. I'm honored to be back with the team and working with the coaching staff and management and players," Chara said Friday after Boston wrapped up another training-camp practice. "It's definitely something new. Something that I know I can bring a lot, but at the same time, I'll be learning a lot, too."
Zdeno Chara returns to the Boston Bruins as the club's hockey operations advisor and mentor, providing leadership and cultural continuity. The 48-year-old former captain will serve as a resource for players and the coaching staff, including first-year head coach Marco Sturm. Charlie McAvoy credits Chara's relentless work ethic, preparation, and treatment of teammates as enduring influences and calls those habits Chara's superpower. Chara says he is excited and honored to be back, expects to contribute significantly, and anticipates learning in the new role. Boston plans to use Chara's presence to help usher a new era and re-establish team identity under emerging leaders.
