The Boston Bruins have signed UMass forward Dans Locmelis to a three-year entry-level contract worth $860,000 annually. Although his contract won't commence until next season, he will finish this season with the Providence Bruins on an amateur tryout invite. Originally drafted in the fourth round in 2022, Locmelis has recorded significant points during his college hockey career and has represented Latvia in multiple international competitions. UMass coach Greg Carvel praised Locmelis for his growth and dedication, anticipating his future success in the NHL.
"During his two short years at UMass, Dans' game improved dramatically, in most part, due to his incredible commitment and discipline to his training."
"I have great respect for Dans and how he carried himself during his time at UMass... a young kid from Latvia with English as his second language, he grew in every possible way."
