Bruins GM Don Sweeney made plenty of bargain basement signings in the summer of 2023... Danton Heinen ended up being the best signing of the bunch, as Heinen exceeded all expectations in his second go-round with the B's. Despite mixed reactions from fans about his signing, Heinen filled various roles effectively and recorded the second-best offensive season of his career, contributing significantly on offense and special teams.
Heinen's 36-point total was bested only by his second NHL season, when he recorded 47 points with the 2018 Bruins. He delivered valuable secondary scoring, as nearly all of his points came at even strength, and recorded four game-winning goals. His performance showcased his ability to chip in on both offense and defensive plays, culminating in his first career hat trick against Montreal.
