State audit says MBTA staffers lacked training, didn't complete safety checks
Briefly

The MBTA failed to ensure that contracted red shirt employees completed safety checks and were trained, according to a state audit.
The audit revealed that out of a sample of 60 employees, the MBTA could only prove that two had received safety training, highlighting significant gaps in oversight.
The auditor could not verify the completion of operations training by employees as the MBTA was unable to provide satisfactory sign-in sheets.
The audit period from Jan 1, 2021, to Dec 31, 2022, showed that the contractor Block by Block's employees were not properly managed by the MBTA in terms of training and safety checks.
