Six Restaurant Openings to Know in and Around Boston, January 2026
"On Wednesday, January 28, the team behind the lauded Comfort Kitchen in Dorchester opened its next huge new venture, Ama, at the Atlas. Dedicated to mothers and caregivers, the new restaurant will continue the Comfort Kitchen tradition of a menu rooted in ingredients from the African diaspora for global flavors. Ama's menu, created collaboratively with culinary director Shelley Nason, includes smoked guajillo beef, berbere spiced-fried chicken, lamb kofta, and much more."
"From the team behind Matsunori Handrollbar and Mai Izakaya comes Norinori Test Kitchen, a new hand roll and bento box bar that opened on Tuesday, January 27. The new space is described as cyberpunk (there's a lot of metal and black walls), and many of the handrolls are clocking in at a (relatively) affordable $5 price tag."
"After almost a decade in Inman Square, you'll actually be able to get a seat at Moona, in their recently opened, larger new space in Central Square. The new restaurant will expand on the original menu and continue to center on Middle Eastern flavors. The menu is heavy on meze like falafel, stuffed grape leaves, and kefta, along with larger plates of beef shish and a daily market fish."
Ama opened at the Atlas in Allston on January 28, dedicated to mothers and caregivers with a menu rooted in African diaspora ingredients and global flavors. Menu items include smoked guajillo beef, berbere spiced-fried chicken, and lamb kofta. The restaurant seats 180 and offers room service, catering, and hotel-lobby snacks. Norinori Test Kitchen opened in Brookline as a hand roll and bento box bar with a cyberpunk interior and many handrolls priced around $5. Moona relocated to a larger Central Square space, expanding its Middle Eastern–centered menu and adding Sahara, a cafe and lounge. Umami Crudo opened in the North End in the former Crudo space from the team behind Umami Omakase.
