Red Sox rookie Connelly Early discussed his dominant MLB debut
"As soon as I got here, as everybody else was getting in, you see all these faces, guys who are future Hall of Famers, insanely good players - when you see those guys walking around and see them go about their business and everything, it was like, holy cow,"
"I can't think of a better way to start your career."
"Obviously, it didn't look like he needed it," said Gonzalez of the plentiful run support given to Early. "He had a pretty sick performance."
Connelly Early, a 23-year-old left-handed pitching prospect, received an MLB call-up after Dustin May went to the injured list. Early pitched five scoreless innings and struck out 11 batters in his debut, tying a team record for rookie debuts, as Boston defeated the Athletics 6-0. Romy Gonzalez and Rob Refsnyder homered in the first inning to provide early run support. Early kept composure with family in attendance and praised catcher Carlos Narváez for his preparation and game-calling during the outing.
