Chunk of MBTA's downtown concourse ceiling falls due to water damage
""We thank the public for notifying the T about the station issue at Park Street earlier this week," the MBTA said."
""T personnel were dispatched immediately to address the issue and ensure safety.""
""When does the MBTA start handing out hard hats?" MacDonagh wrote."
""The chunk that fell in the concourse was "nothing like the ones that have come down in Harvard," MacDonagh said, "but it was still enough to have caused some decent damage to one's head.""
A portion of the Winter Street concourse ceiling fell Tuesday morning in the tunnel connecting the Green and Orange lines, creating a hole and debris on the concourse. Images of broken plaster were shared on social media by a commuter. The MBTA attributed the collapse to water intrusion, dispatched bridge inspectors to remove materials, and had the director of engineering confirm the area was safe for service. Debris was cleaned and the passageway remained open. Earlier in the year, a larger corroded panel fell at Harvard station and similar panels were removed overnight. Commuters expressed concern and urged continued facility rehabilitation.
