The Milton Select Board voted 3-2 against submitting an action plan required by the MBTA Communities Act, which aims to increase multi-family housing near transit. Instead, they chose to write to the EOHLC expressing concerns about being labeled a "rapid transit community." The residents previously rejected zoning changes, leading to a lawsuit from Attorney General Andrea Campbell. The vote reflects diverging views on housing growth and taxation, with some members arguing for potential benefits from zoning file compliance while others prioritize dialogue and fairness in representation.
In a Democratic society, anything can change on any given day. It's about fairness, and I look forward to continued dialogue with them.
The proposed plan would have resulted in increased tax revenue and been a boon for Milton and its schools. We've lost the chance to progress.
