To be clear, I certainly keep an eye on their book reviews... you only hear about books that have reached critical mass / mainstream approval.
To get this post done, I tried to clinically study my own discovery habits over the past couple months... But if you only read what the NYT highlights, you'll miss fiction that might even be more in your personal zone of interest.
