When to quit a book - Harvard Gazette
Briefly

There's a certain romance to reading, hence the inevitable heartache when you break up with a book. I need both substance and sorcery, captivating content and magic on the page. When that magic is absent, readers should act accordingly, whether they're 50 or 100 pages in.
It's important to listen to your feelings as a reader. When I’m not under the spell of a book by page 50 or so, I put it aside.
Abandoning books doesn’t need to come with guilt! Life is too short for stories that don’t captivate or engage us. The choice should enhance your reading experience.
Sticking with a book that falls flat can lead to disappointment; sometimes, it's best to move on rather than risk the possibility of a dreadful plot twist.
