Tayari Jones, an accomplished novelist and professor at Cornell and Emory universities, presents her latest work Kin at Kepler's Literary Foundation. The novel centers on two best friends from Louisiana who were raised by extended family members without their mothers present. After completing high school, the characters diverge: Annie embarks on a quest to find her mother, while Vernice attends Spelman College. Jones participates in a discussion with fellow author Natalie Baszile, whose 2014 novel Queen Sugar was adapted into an OWN television series directed by Ava DuVernay and produced by Oprah Winfrey. The event is free and takes place on March 25 at 7pm.
