Library Lines: James' is book for this year's Read Contra Costa program

Contra Costa County Library selected James by Percival Everett as the Read Contra Costa book, a Pulitzer Prize- and National Book Award-winning retelling of Huckleberry Finn from Jim's perspective. The countywide reading program runs Sept. 2 through Nov. 8 and offers James in hardback, e-book and e-audiobook formats. The library system partners with Los Medanos College and the Richmond Public Library for program events available via ccclib.org and local book clubs. September is Library Card Sign-Up Month; library cards provide free access to e-resources, streaming films, tutoring, language learning, career help, digital subscriptions, and museum passes. Pittsburg Library will host Hispanic Heritage Month programs including a Quinceanera Memories exhibit and a teen modeling call.

Hispanic Heritage: Each year, the library system celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with special programs, events and booklists that honor the history, culture and contributions of the Latinx community. This year, in addition to these offerings, the Pittsburg Library will host a multipart celebration that includes three unique programs. Quinceanera Memories: Stories from Our Community is a special exhibit featuring photos and reflections from local women about their own quinceanera experiences.
