Joe Duffy and Mary Kennedy to publish memoirs later this year
Joe Duffy’s memoir Talk to Joe: Life, Liveline and Me is scheduled for publication on Thursday, 5 November. The book takes readers inside RTÉ’s Liveline studio for nearly three decades of presenting and extends beyond the show. It follows topical issues raised on Liveline, including the Celtic Tiger boom and crash, menopause, marriage equality, maternity care, and abuses in schools and institutions. Hachette describes the memoir as a chronicle of Ireland in transition told by someone who listened hardest and made talking feel easy. Duffy stepped down from the show last June. Mary Kennedy’s non-fiction book Now You Are Wonderful: A Celebration of Age, Freedom and Wisdom will be released on Thursday, 1 October, addressing what it is to age, including loneliness, forgetfulness, and slowing down.
"Talk to Joe: Life, Liveline and Me is set to be published on Thursday, 5 November. The book will take readers inside RTÉ's Liveline studio for the nearly three decades Duffy presented the show, and beyond. According to Hachette the memoir will follow topical issues discussed on the show such as the Celtic Tiger boom and crash, menopause, marriage equality, maternity care and abuses in schools and institutions."
"The publisher said: "Talk to Joe is more than a memoir: it's a chronicle of Ireland in transition, told by the man who listened hardest - and made talking feel easy." The broadcaster stepped down from the show last June. During his final show former President Michael D Higgins wished him "every happiness" in the next chapter of his life following a "long and remarkable career"."
"Taoiseach Micheál Martin also called into the show to thank Duffy for his public service. "Thank you sincerely, you are and were the voice of the people. You were authentic. You gave the people a platform," he said. Duffy previously published a memoir Just Joe in 2010. In 2015, Children of the Rising, his original research on the children killed during the Easter Rising of 1916 unearthed for the first time information on the forty children who died violently that week."
"Meanwhile, former presenter of Nationwide, Mary Kennedy's non-fiction book Now You Are Wonderful: A Celebration of Age, Freedom and Wisdom, will be published on Thursday, 1 October. The book will discuss "what it is to age", with Hachette explaining that the broadcaster will not shy away from the realities of ageing such as loneliness, forgetfulness, slowing down."
