From caterpillar to butterfly, 'Papilio' grows up in a new picture book
Briefly

Papilio narrates the life stages of a caterpillar named Papilio, with a focus on her journey to metamorphosis. The story is divided into three parts, emphasizing the caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly phases. Written and illustrated by Ben Clanton, Corey R. Tabor, and Andy Chou Musser, the illustrations feature a cohesive pastel color palette, while each contributor brings their unique style to different stages of Papilio's life. The creative collaboration stemmed from a desire to have fun and exhibit their artistic voices through this project.
Clanton's illustrations tend toward cartoony; he used watercolors, ink, leaf pressings, stamps, markers and colored pencils. Really anything he could get his hands on.
At each stage of life, she sees the world a little bit differently. So it makes sense that the illustrations would change a little bit with her.
The character can't really do anything; she's just stuck inside of her chrysalis all the time.
We wanted to do the project because it would just be a fun thing to do between the three of us.
