Being a nonprofit publishing house and bookstore allows us to publish and promote books for their artistic and social value - books that we believe should be in the world for readers around the world.
The corporate publishing industry has told you that books that don't sell don't just deserve not to be published, they are telling you that you as readers don't deserve to read them. And that's the mentality Deep Vellum was founded to destroy, with our mission to bring the world into conversation through literature.
But publishing books is expensive! Our nonprofit model allows us to apply for grants and receive donations to offset the expense of producing and making the books available to everyone around the world, supporting book tours, hosting literary readings and discussions, and selling the books at an affordable price point.
