One unique way to do that before heading to the theater is to check out the various graphic novel adaptations and prequel series, many of which are currently on sale at Amazon.
If you're a Dune newcomer and prefer graphic novels to regular novels, your best bet is to start with the original graphic novel series, which currently consists of Book 1 and Book 2.
