A pop-up bookstore just opened in the back of this Brooklyn brewery
Briefly

Backroom Books is a cozy pop-up book shop located inside Strong Rope Brewery in Red Hook. The owners, Shasha Léonard and their partner Gordon Taylor, saw the opportunity to turn an underused space at the brewery into a bookshop after realizing there was a lack of book sources in the neighborhood. Léonard wanted to provide a place where people could read with a view of the waterfront and escape from the recent closure of New York Public Libraries on Sundays due to budget cuts.
"You can sit in one of these really cool leather chairs and read a book with this incredible view of tugboats and barges going by."
Léonard and Taylor's long-simmering plan for a bookshop became a reality when they saw the unloved back room at Strong Rope Brewery. Léonard recalls being frustrated by the closure of the local library and wanted to provide a book source in the Red Hook area. With Backroom Books, they aim to meet readers where they are and offer unexpected delight in the form of a cozy reading spot with a view.
"There isn't really a book source in Red Hook," they say.
