"the trading card game has opted to return to Mega Evolutions, perfectly in time with the giant monsters' resurgence in the forthcoming Pokémon Legends: Z-A. The first new set, out today in the U.S., is aptly and simply called Mega Evolution, and based on opening a few dozen packs, I'm delighted to report that a newfound generosity seems to have arrived."
"OK, I'm not going to let this color my assessment of the set, but I will say I when I opened it last night I ran upstairs and woke up my son to show him in quite the display of excellent parenting. Oh, and the centering on the reverse is awful, so there's no hope of a nice PSA rating. Right, moving on."
Pokémon TCG returns to Mega Evolutions with a new Mega Evolution set released in the U.S., offering notably generous pack pulls. Special Illustration Rares include Mega Venusaur ex, Mega Lucario ex, Mega Latias ex, and the returning Mega Gardevoir ex, while a larger Charizard release is reserved for November’s Mega Evolution: Phantasmal Flames. The set contains 188 cards and removes several recent trends: reverse holos no longer use Poké Ball or Master Ball patterns, the reverse holo has no pattern, there are no holo Energy cards, and there are no Ace Spec–style cards, creating a simplified, reset feel.
