Magic: The Gathering tries unbanning cards as 'an experiment'
Briefly

Wizards of the Coast announced the unbanning of High Tide and Prophetic Prism in Magic: The Gathering’s Pauper format, marking the first time cards have been trial unbanned. However, no changes were made to the Commander format, which recently suffered backlash against its B&R announcement. Evaluations of trial unbanning will occur in future announcements, according to Wizards. In the midst of upheaval, Commander is now managed directly by Wizards but receives input from a newly created Commander Format Panel.
A trial unban is unbanning the card with the expectation that at the next [banned and restricted, or B&R announcement], we will evaluate if the card should remain on the banned list or be put back on. We'll also share our expectations of what we're hoping happens with that card, and then compare that to reality.
The announcement comes on the heels of a disastrous B&R announcement for the Commander format in 2024, which led to alleged death threats, the dissolution of the multiplayer format's volunteer oversight committee.
