The Guilty series of cooperative detective games by Iello Games, including Houston 2015 and Monaco 1955, combines rich storytelling with challenging codes and word puzzles. Designed by Yohan Servais, these games are tailored for one or more players, with manual mechanics centered around time and story card decks that guide the investigation. While Houston 2015 features a gripping murder mystery scenario, Monaco 1955 introduces unique mechanisms that allow players to blend story cards, enriching gameplay. Both games demand time and thoughtful decision-making, often extending the playtime beyond the 3-4 hours typically suggested.
Despite the suggested game length, our actual time spent was at least 5 hours. We spread the gameplay over several nights of serious effort.
The use of a time deck gives the games some momentum because your investigation will not last long enough to pursue every lead.
Houston 2015 is a murder mystery, and it is interrogation-heavy. The prison setting and the less-than-truthful inmates made the game feel as if every theory was mere speculation.
Both games have complicated but mostly realistic stories, each providing a unique blend of codes and word puzzles for immersive player experiences.
