A Gentle Rain, a game designed by Kevin Wilson, merges the mechanics of board gaming with mindfulness practice. Players pull and place tiles to grow lotus blossoms, emphasizing slow, deliberate movements and sensory awareness. The game encourages players to focus on color matching and spatial awareness, which provides a calming and reflective experience. While scoring is an option, many players find fulfillment in simply creating a harmonious tableau. This innovative title stands out as a therapeutic tool for those seeking moments of stillness and concentration amid life’s challenges.
Practicing mindfulness is often an intimidating prospect. You're tasked with being still, noticing things inside and outside of your body, and most challenging of all, not really thinking about anything.
A Gentle Rain is a tableau-building game where one or more players pull random squares and place them on the table, with the ultimate goal of growing lotus blossoms.
It is impossible to make the game go faster, because there are no extra steps. Instead, you just have to sit there, breathe, feel the soft matte square in your hand.
I care most about blossoming all eight lotuses in one game, which I've only accomplished once so far.
