US: Police enter Columbia University to disperse protesters DW 05/01/2024
Briefly

Special police units from the New York Police Department (NYPD) used a massive truck and a ramp to enter a building occupied by pro-Palestinian protesters at Columbia University in New York City. Officers took protesters into custody, wearing helmets and carrying zip ties and riot shields.
The protesters made their way to Hamilton Hall, Columbia University's main academic building, on Tuesday and occupied it for 12 hours. Some protesters who refused to comply were already suspended.
"We made it very clear yesterday that the work of the University cannot be endlessly interrupted by protesters who violate the rules," Vice President of Public Affairs Ben Chang stated.
Columbia University, at the center of pro-Palestinian protests, saw students defying orders to clear their encampment. This led to police intervention after receiving authorization from the university.
