UN reports 35 percent increase in people affected by South Sudan violence

The UN Mission in South Sudan documented 233 incidents of violence affecting 862 people, with 406 killed, 293 injured, and others subjected to various forms of violence.

Violence caused by ethnic tensions and disputes over resources like land has been on the rise, especially in Abyei, claimed by both Sudan and South Sudan since South Sudan's independence in 2011.
