A coalition of civil rights groups, led by the African American Policy Forum, has initiated a weeklong campaign against Donald Trump's attacks on Black history, particularly his executive orders affecting the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Kimberle Crenshaw, a key figure in this initiative, aims to emphasize the importance of Black history in understanding America's narrative. The campaign includes a culminating demonstration and seeks to counteract efforts to marginalize racial justice discussions. Various organizations have united in their stance that Black history is integral to American history and democracy.
Crenshaw emphasized, 'The attacks on ideas germinating from racial justice were not about the specific targets of each attack but are efforts to impose a specific narrative about the United States that marginalizes its difficult chapters.'
In a statement, the coalition affirmed, 'We affirm that Black history is American history, without which we cannot understand our country's fight for freedom or secure a more democratic future.'
Crenshaw remarked, 'Our goal this week has been to flood the zone, as we call it, with Black history.'
