In New Orleans, following a jailbreak where ten inmates escaped through a hole in a toilet, six men remain at large. The FBI has raised its reward from $5,000 to $10,000 for information leading to their capture. Jail officials stated that defective locks and potential assistance from inside the department allowed the men to escape. While four have been caught, a multi-agency task force is actively searching for the remaining fugitives, who face serious charges ranging from aggravated assault to murder.
FBI Special Agent Jonathan Trapp emphasized the seriousness of the situation, warning that if members of the public are found to be aiding the escapees, they would face legal consequences.
Sheriff Susan Hutson revealed that the escape was facilitated by 'defective locks' at the Orleans Justice Center, stating that escape is 'almost impossible' without inside help.
