Devaughndre Monique Broussard, the hitman responsible for the murder of Oakland newspaper editor Chauncey Bailey in 2007, has been paroled after spending almost 18 years in prison. Bailey's sister expressed hope that Broussard has reformed and can contribute positively to the community. Broussard, who was convicted as part of a plea deal, was sentenced to 25 years but received reductions for good behavior. His actions were ordered by Yusuf Bey IV, leader of a now-defunct bakery, to prevent Bailey from publishing a damaging story about them.
