Marble tablet inscribed with the Ten Commandments auctioned for $5m
Briefly

The tablet sold at auction is the oldest known stone inscription of the Ten Commandments, achieving a final sale price over $5 million, well above estimates.
Dating from 300 to 800 AD, the tablet is unique in inscribing the Ten Commandments in Paleo-Hebrew script, with some omissions and additions reflecting Samaritan traditions.
Originally used as a paving stone, the tablet was unearthed in 1913 during railroad excavations and only recognized for its historical significance decades later.
Sotheby's described the tablet as a tangible connection to ancient beliefs that have deeply influenced global religious and cultural traditions.
