On April 30, 2025, Miami Gardens unveiled a street sign named Bessie Stringfield Way, honoring the first Black woman to ride across the U.S. on her motorcycle. Stringfield, known as the "Motorcycle Queen of Miami," made eight cross-country trips beginning in the 1930s. The tribute, attended by local officials and motorcycle enthusiasts, emphasized community commitment amid the growing challenges to acknowledge Black history. Councilwoman Michelle C. Powell affirmed the importance of maintaining and celebrating such legacies, especially during times of remembrance of Black historical figures.
