The National Assembly has voted to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on 11 charges, including corruption and stirring ethnic hatred, seeking his removal from office.
Deputy President Gachagua claims that the impeachment motion is based on falsehoods and constitutes a political lynching, as stated in documents from his court appeal.
Judge Eric Ogola confirmed that the impeachment process is lawful, affirming that the Senate will conduct a trial to determine all the raised issues before making a decision.
If the Senate dismisses Gachagua, he would be the first deputy president in Kenya to be removed by impeachment since the introduction of the 2010 constitution.
