Israel says 8 of 33 on Hamas list of captives to be freed are already dead
Briefly

Israel has announced scheduled releases of captives under the ceasefire agreement with Hamas, with 33 captives set to be exchanged in phases. A list provided by Hamas confirmed that eight of these captives are deceased, leaving 25 alive, while approximately 90 captives remain in captivity. The deal aims to facilitate the release of over 1,900 Palestinians in exchange for the hostages. Since the truce began in January, there have been partial exchanges, highlighting the complexity of negotiations following the conflict that escalated on October 7, 2023.
The families have been informed of the situation of their relatives, Mencer said, without providing the names of the deceased. Israel has said the next release of captives will take place on Thursday, followed by another on Saturday.
Under the first phase of the agreement, 33 captives held in Gaza are to be released in exchange for more than 1,900 Palestinians held by Israel.
Approximately 90 captives are still being held. Prior to this announcement, Israel believed at least 35 of them were dead.
Their upcoming release was announced by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday night as part of the truce agreement with Hamas.
