Investigation to reopen into police officer acquitted of murdering Chris Kaba
Briefly

Martyn Blake, a firearms officer, was acquitted of murder for the shooting of 24-year-old Mr. Kaba in September 2022. Following this acquittal, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) raised concerns about the potential excessive use of force by Blake during the incident. Despite the Metropolitan Police's assistant commissioner's view that no further action is warranted, the IOPC has mandated a misconduct hearing. This decision has been met with significant implications for Blake and reflects ongoing community concerns regarding police use of lethal force.
The IOPC has now determined that NX121 has a case to answer for his use of force and has directed us to hold a gross misconduct hearing.
We know any fatal use of force by police understandably prompts concern among communities.
