Researchers recently highlighted the pervasive problem of black plastic items leaching harmful chemicals, with a startling 85% of tested products containing flame retardants.
The study analyzed 203 black plastic items, revealing that 17 out of 20 top contaminated products had significant levels of brominated flame retardants.
Megan Liu stated, "We learned that these black plastics, often recycled from old electronics, can contain hazardous substances due to outdated flame retardants still present."
The troubling aspect of using black plastics is that they frequently come from recycled electronic parts that aren't adequately screened for harmful chemicals.
