ESA's Gaia mission discovers the biggest stellar black hole in our galaxy yet
Briefly

Scientists have discovered a stellar black hole in the Milky Way that's 33 times the size of our sun using data from the European Space Agency's Gaia mission, making it the largest of its kind seen in our galaxy.
Despite its relative proximity at 1,926 light-years away, the newly discovered black hole, known as Gaia BH3, had been difficult to find due to the lack of nearby celestial bodies to feed it matter and cause it to emit X-rays.
The star orbiting the black hole, Gaia BH3, is noted to have very few heavy elements, hinting at a possible link in composition with the star that had collapsed to form the massive black hole.
