Egypt tourist boat sinks off Red Sea, 17 missing
Briefly

At least 28 people have been rescued from the Sea Story, which sank off the coast of Marsa Alam. Search operations are underway for at least 17 missing, including foreign nationals.
The boat was carrying a mixed group of 45 individuals on a diving trip when it began to sink. Governor Amr Hanafi stated that some survivors are receiving medical care after being airlifted.
Despite forecasts of turbulent seas, it is unclear how the Sea Story was permitted to sail. The Egyptian Meteorological Authority had warned against maritime activities due to dangerous wave heights.
The Red Sea is a crucial part of Egypt's tourism industry, famous for its diving spots, yet previous incidents like the 2016 tragedy highlight significant maritime risks.
