DR Congo says several towns recaptured from rebels, but fighting persists

According to army spokesman Guillaume Ndjike Kaiko, some towns like Ngungu, key to the Masisi territory, had remained under rebel control for months but were successfully reclaimed by government forces amidst ongoing violence from various armed groups.

The eastern DRC remains fragmented with ongoing conflict, where over 100 armed groups contend for control over a resource-rich area, creating significant humanitarian challenges, leading to nearly two million displaced since the rise of the M23 rebellion.
