DOJ investigating Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson for possible discrimination in hiring black staff
Briefly

The Department of Justice is probing Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson over remarks he made about racial hiring practices in his administration. Johnson highlighted his commitment to appointing Black staff during a church service, which prompted the investigation to assess whether these hiring decisions violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon has emphasized that the DOJ has not reached any conclusions yet. Meanwhile, Johnson has dismissed the investigation as intimidation and defended the diversity efforts in his administration.
Considering these remarks, I have authorized an investigation to determine whether the City of Chicago is engaged in a pattern or practice of discrimination as set forth above.
If these kind of hiring decisions are being made for top-level positions in your administration, then it begs the question whether such decisions are also being made for lower-level positions.
